After winning the championship, the Knicks have been widely viewed as one of the favorites to contend again next season. However, Durant isn't convinced that New York's success will be easy to replicate. Speaking during an interview with the Wall Street Journal in Cannes, the Rockets star suggested that the franchise may have to wait decades before celebrating another title.

“I would tell him to strike while the iron’s hot. This is a time that I don’t think New Yorkers or the Knicks are gonna get back. You gotta take advantage of this time right now, you don’t know if this will come around again. It’s been 53 years. It could be another 53-year wait,” Durant said.

Throughout his career, Durant already played for five different teams. He had a chance to join the Knicks team in 2019 free agency. However, KD left the opportunity and instead, he and Kyrie Irving teamed up on the Brooklyn Nets.

Throughout his NBA career, Durant has suited up for five different franchises. One of the biggest decisions of his career came during 2019 free agency, when he had the opportunity to sign with the Knicks. But, Durant passed on the chance to become the face of New York's other franchise. Instead he chose to join forces with Kyrie Irving on the Brooklyn Nets.

That decision has long made Durant a polarizing figure among Knicks fans. His latest comments, which appeared to downplay the sustainability of New York's long-awaited championship, added more fuel to the criticism from a fan base that had finally celebrated its first NBA title since 1973.
