India's spin attack hit by untimely injury of Shreyanka Patil
India have been dealt a significant blow in the Women's T20 World Cup, with off-spinner Shreyanka Patil ruled out of the remainder of the tournament after picking up an injury during the group match against the Netherlands.
The ICC has since confirmed her withdrawal and approved Royal Challengers Bengaluru's uncapped spinner Prema Rawat as her replacement.
Shreyanka hurt her ankle while fielding during the opening over of the Netherlands innings on Wednesday. She received treatment on the field but was unable to continue, and subsequent medical assessment confirmed she would play no further part in the competition.
Her absence is a setback for India, given the role she has played within the spin-bowling unit, and it leaves the team management with a fresh selection puzzle heading into the knockouts.

ICC confirms Rawat's call-up
Rawat, who had already been in England as part of the India A contingent, will now join the senior squad for the rest of the World Cup.
In its official statement, the ICC's Event Technical Committee confirmed that Rawat had been approved as Shreyanka's replacement following the ankle injury sustained in the Netherlands match.
"The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 has approved Prema Rawat as a replacement for Shreyanka Patil in the India squad," the ICC Media release read.
"Rawat was named as a replacement after Patil was ruled out following an injury to her right ankle that she sustained while fielding in the match against the Netherlands on Wednesday. The replacement of a player requires the approval of the Event Technical Committee before the replacement player can be officially added to the squad."

Who is Prema Rawat?
The 24-year-old has yet to make her senior international debut but arrives with a strong domestic resume behind her.
She has impressed through consistent performances in the Women's Premier League and stood out at the Women's Asia Cup Rising Stars tournament, where she picked up eight wickets for India A at an outstanding average of 9.62.
Those numbers have kept her name firmly in selectors' minds over recent months. At the franchise level, Rawat has played six WPL matches for Royal Challengers Bengaluru across the last two seasons, claiming three wickets.
The timing makes the injury especially difficult for Shreyanka, who had only recently worked her way back into the international fold following an earlier injury layoff. She had featured in India's win over Pakistan earlier in the tournament, bowling three economical overs and conceding just 17 runs in a tidy display.
What's next for India in the Women's T20 World Cup?
Attention now turns to India's next group-stage match against South Africa on June 21 at Old Trafford. With Rawat now added to the squad, India will need to quickly settle on their best spin combination as they look to maintain momentum without one of their key bowling options.
