Kentucky Reportedly Clarify Mikhail McLean’s Coaching Status After Bahamas Job Offer
· Yahoo Sports
Kentucky are going through a purple patch in terms of decision-making at the program, with several players strengthening the team for the upcoming season, but it isn’t just the players on the court that are making moves.
Mark Pope’s coaching staff appears to be undergoing some changes, too, with the latest coming in the form of a job offer to assistant coach Mikhail McLean. McLean has accepted the role of head coach at the Bahamas National Team and appears to be ecstatic about the move.

“It is a great honor to be named the head coach for The Bahamas Senior Men’s National Team,” McLean said.
“It is something I’ve dreamed of since becoming a coach. Representing my country is something that I take immense pride in and will never take it for granted. This is particularly special for me, as I know my parents would be extremely proud.
“I want to also thank Coach Pope and our staff for supporting this dream,” McLean went on.
“Since the moment I became a Wildcat, Coach Pope has pushed us all to chase our goals and that leadership is incredibly meaningful as I take on this opportunity.”
But the natural question from Kentucky fans now is whether he will still be coaching the Wildcats this campaign, and that answer seems to have arrived, too.
According to Jack Pilgrim, Kentucky have assured that McLean will return as a full-time assistant for the fall semester, with just a few weeks of summer practice being missed in July.
Are Kentucky Getting Another Assistant Coach?
Regardless of Mikhail McLean’s status, Mark Pope is out looking for another coach as part of his staff, with Jamal Crawford among the names linked to the team.
In fact, Pope recently gave an update on recruitment and clarified that they’re still looking for the individual who would absolutely fit the profile. Many fans believe Crawford is the ideal man for the job, but with him on NBA commentary, perhaps a decision will be made soon after the finals are over.
