Vikings HC Kevin O'Connell shares that he has spoken to Harrison Smith
· Yahoo Sports
The Minnesota Vikings' defense has benefited from the play of Harrison Smith in their secondary for the last 14 seasons. Ever since he was drafted in the first round out of Notre Dame in 2012, he has been a fan favorite and someone the entire defense looks up to.
As we inch closer to the 2026 season, questions are swirling as Smith remains unsigned and uncommitted to playing. We have seen veterans before wait till the end of training camp, which could be what he is planning, but to hear nothing remains unsettling for fans.

That is why, when Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell mentioned he had spoken with Smith, fans ears perked up.
O'Connell shared, "He was in town and saw some folks. I didn't get to see him. I'm incredibly hurt by that. And in an attempt to play some golf with him, I was turned down. That's the only update that, in embarrassing fashion, I'm willing to give."
While the comments shine no light on the situation at all, the joking tone has to at least provide some insight that the team isn't worried, yet. There will be questions with a new general manager if they want to bring them back, but this is also a general manager in Nolan Teasley who wants to make a good first impression.
