12,060-Brick LEGO Architecture Sagrada Familia Announced, And Yes — It's The Biggest Set Ever

LEGO has announced its biggest set ever, the 12,060-brick LEGO Architecture Sagrada Familia, which recreates the world-famous church in extraordinary detail. It's available to preorder from today, in both the U.S. and the U.K. (see here).

Priced at $799.99 / £649.99 and available from November 1, the LEGO Architecture Sagrada Familia is not the most expensive LEGO set ever — but it is the biggest in terms of the number of pieces it contains. (The most expensive remains LEGO's recent $999.99 Death Star, which featured just 9,023 bricks.)
The real-life Sagrada Familia, located in the Spanish city of Barcelona, is the largest unfinished Catholic church in the world, and has been under construction since March 1882. More than 140 years later, the building is now almost complete — with current estimates placing its completion in around 2034.
Yes, this means that you'll be able to finish building your own LEGO Sagrada Familia roughly eight years before the real-life church is done — which is surely another first.
"Recreate an iconic Spanish landmark with the LEGO Architecture Sagrada Familia (21065) model kit," LEGO's official blurb reads. "This 12,060 piece set (the largest LEGO building set to date) is a challenging and rewarding adventure for yourself or any travel lover.
"The build, inspired by the actual construction, begins with the Apse with Crypt, the Nativity façade – the only part [original architect Antoni] Gaudí completed before his passing – and the Passion façade. It then moves on to the naves and the Western Sacristy. Complete the six towers and finish the basilica with the Eastern Sacristy and the Glory façade. Once the last brick is in place, you can display this spectacular piece with an elegant nameplate on the base."
The Sagrada Familia eclipses the previous LEGO World Map set (11,695 bricks) which previously held the record for the most pieces included in a single set. LEGO.com handily has a top 10 list of the other biggest sets, which now sit as follows:

While stuffed full of pieces, the set won't rival LEGO's largest sets in terms of space required. Still, you'll need a fair bit of room to house this 24 inch (62 cm) high, 18.5 inch (47 cm) wide and 15 inch (39 cm) deep creation.
