For the first time since 2018, the Cleveland Cavaliers made it to the Eastern Conference Finals. But after being swept out of the playoffs 4-0 by the New York Knicks, what is next for the Cavs?

Top players James Harden and Donovan Mitchell publicly backed coach Kenny Atkinson after the game.

Cavs owner Dan Gilbert acknowledged his team took a step making it this far into the NBA playoffs. But, as he posted on social media, the Cavs are "nowhere near where we need to be."

Where Gilbert is referring to is making it back to the NBA Finals for the first time since 2018.

"We will dig in all summer and do everything we possibly can to take the next step," Gilbert's social media post concluded. "We will grind until we get there."

It's possible figuring out how to take the next step could lead to changes to the roster or the coaching staff. Harden has a player option for next season. Mitchell has just one year of team control remaining on his contract. Big men Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley are locked up for the next several seasons.

If the Cavs want to change their roster, they'll have to be creative. But Gilbert has shown in the past he's not afraid to make changes.
