Last year, Boston failed to reach the postseason for the first time since the 2015-16 campaign, but the team experienced a resurgence under first-year head coach Marco Sturm. His system has revitalized a defensive unit that looked sluggish last season, turning the Bruins back into one of the toughest squads in the Eastern Conference.

Now, the focus will shift to the playoffs. With the Panthers eliminated, the postseason bracket is wide open, and Boston fans are dreaming about a championship celebration.

Here are a few reasons why the Bruins can win their first Stanley Cup since 2011.

Why Bruins can win 2026 Stanley Cup

When looking at the playoff field in the East, the Bruins have a legitimate case to take down some of the conference's top contenders.

(All stats current as of April 15)

David Pastrnak

It all starts with No. 88.

This season, Pastrnak ranks in the top 10 in the NHL with 100 points, marking his fourth consecutive 100-point season. While he did not reach the 40-goal mark, ending a four-year streak, he had a career-high 71 assists.

For Boston to make a deep run, Pastrnak must maintain the durability and high-octane production that he has shown throughout the regular season. If he continues to lead the way on the playoff stage, the Bruins will have the confidence to take on any opponent.

Jeremy Swayman

The last time the Bruins clinched a postseason berth (2023-24), Swayman was absolutely incredible. In his first extended playoff stretch as the No. 1 goalie, Swayman started 12 games and finished his run with a .933 save percentage and 2.15 goals against average.

Fast forward to the 2025-26 season, and Boston's top goaltender has reclaimed his elite form. He posted a career-high 31 wins, and he is among the league's leaders in the goals saved above expected metric.

As every hockey fans knows, a hot goalie can completely swing a series. If Swayman is swallowing up shot attempts, the Bruins will be difficult to beat.

New team, new identity

The Bruins have embraced a defensive identity. A major factor in this shift has been the blue-line presence of Nikita Zadorov.

Since joining the team, Zadorov has added not only an intimidating physicality, delivering nearly 200 hits this season, but also a terrifying shooting element, recently recording the hardest shot of the NHL EDGE era (103.9 mph). Along with Charlie McAvoy and Hampus Lindholm, Boston brings a defensive group to the ice that is miserable to play against.

In terms of offense outside of Pastrnak, Boston can rely on Morgan Geekie and Pavel Zacha, both of whom have scored at least 30 goals this season. The Bruins also have a 25-goal scorer in Viktor Arvidsson on the wing.

Boston possesses a strong balance of stars and complementary players, ensuring that if an opponent successfully shadows Pastrnak, there is enough collective talent to find a different way to win on any given night.
