LIV Golf is powering on this week in Mexico City despite big concerns over its future.

In a major blow to the league, LIV Golf could soon lose its funding from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF).

It arrives after just four years since its inception in 2022, and could also have major implications for the PGA Tour, which many players left to join LIV Golf.

But Alexis Ohanian has now ensured that another venture has entered the conversation, having just reminded golf fans about his successful TMRW Golf League (TGL) deal.

Ohanian, who co-created Reddit, has sent a timely reminder about his investment in Los Angeles Golf Club.

Alexis Ohanian shares timely message after being told LIV Golf would ‘crush’ TGL

Ohanian posted on X: “When I bought the first team in TGL, I distinctly remember the replies from folks who said it was destined to fail because LIV would crush it and that I was an idiot for buying the first team, LAGC.

“Don’t worry, I saved some of the tweets.”

And he shared some of those saved messages that were sent to him at the time, one of which read: “This is going to be an epic bomb. No one is going to watch pros play simulator golf.”

A similar comment read: “This will be a complete flop. Watching someone hit balls into a simulator is one of the most boring things you will ever do.”

And another of his followers told him simply: “It’s gonna fail!”

Ohanian is clearly enjoying his apparent position of superiority in the discussion right now, having only recently witnessed LAGC claim the 2026 TGL title.

They defeated Jupiter Links GC in this year’s final, with golf legend Tiger Woods having returned from injury to take part in the event.

Alexis Ohanian and Serena Williams among star-studded LAGC investors

Ohanian is evidently confident in the long-term future of TGL, which returned earlier this year for a second season after starting out in 2025.

The indoor league was founded by Woods and Rory McIlroy, and comprises six teams of four PGA Tour players each, although a seventh team has been confirmed for the 2027 season.

Taking place at the SoFi Center in Florida, its success has inspired a women’s edition, with WTGL preparing for launch in winter 2026-27.

And Ohanian will also be keeping a close eye on that event given that he is an investor in Los Angeles G.C. Women.

Intriguingly, the LAGC investor is joined in that role by his wife Serena Williams, and her sister and fellow tennis legend Venus Williams.

Also involved are NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, LPGA ace Michelle Wie West and soccer icon Alex Morgan.
