Kansas City Chiefs superfan Eric Stonestreet already launched a Rookie of the Week campaign for Emmett Johnson after his monster performance against the Denver Broncos. Another Eric — Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy — is also a big fan of the rookie running back out of Nebraska and he shared exactly why despite his dislike of Cornhuskers.

“Emmett works. He does not take anything for granted. It ain’t by chance that he’s had success when called upon, because you talk about a kid that does not take anything for granted. He goes out there and he works — whatever you ask him to do, he’s gonna try to excel at it,” Bieniemy said of Johnson.

Bieniemy added that Johnson has the “type of mental and physical attitude that you want from all your players,” which is high praise for a rookie entering a championship-winning organization.

A fifth-round pick by the Chiefs this year, Johnson hasn’t had too many opportunities to feature in the Kansas City offense. But that changed against the Broncos, as he exploded for 128 yards on five catches with a 73-yard touchdown.

It seems all of Johnson’s hard work behind the scenes has finally paid off, and he figures to get more touches moving forward. Despite the return of wide receiver Rashee Rice, the Chiefs desperately need an injection of energy to their offense, which has been sputtering during their two-game losing skid. Johnson will look to provide it once again as the Chiefs take on the struggling New York Jets in Week 9.
