Real Madrid have done an excellent job of developing young academy talents and selling them to other clubs while retaining control over their futures.
Los Blancos did this with Nico Paz a few seasons ago, selling him to Como but retaining buy-back clauses for each summer.
Paz’s development at the Italian club reached a whole new level, prompting Los Blancos to buy him back this summer and sell him again to the Italian club for a huge fee.
His current season at Como has turned him into a football superstar, and he has repeatedly been linked with another return to the Spanish capital.
Now, according to Fabrizio Romano, Los Blancos have a limited window to exercise their €80 million buy-back clause next summer.
Real Madrid have until summer 2027 to bring Paz back
The important revelation from Romano was that Real Madrid only have the summer of 2027 to bring him back.
After that, their buy-back clause expires, and Los Blancos will lose all control over the player’s future.

The arrangement was established last summer when Como agreed to pay €60 million to acquire the remaining rights to Paz, who wanted another season under Cesc Fabregas.
Real Madrid somehow managed to include an option for the summer of 2027, and now they have a major decision to make.
There is a chance that the Spanish club may have a right of first refusal beyond the summer of 2027, but that isn’t the same as having a favourable buy-back clause.
A difficult decision awaits Real Madrid
Paz has developed into the superstar around whom the Como team has been built. He scored twice and provided an assist in the Italian side’s historic 4-1 victory over Manchester United.
Financially, Real Madrid should have no problem pulling off this deal. They would effectively need to spend only around €20 million extra to bring him back.

Even if they decide to sell him on after that, the price is likely to be much higher than the buy-back clause, and Los Blancos stand to make a profit.
However, bringing him back and finding a place for him in the squad would be a bigger challenge, given the kind of talent already at the club.
Real Madrid already have Jude Bellingham, Arda Guler and Bernardo Silva in the squad, and not giving Paz minutes would not be ideal for his current trajectory.
It remains to be seen how Real Madrid approach this situation and whether they pay the money to bring Paz back to the Santiago Bernabeu next summer.
