7 kilometres from South Africa’s platinum city, there are 12 acres with R90 rates

· The South African

According to a 5 November 2026 listing from Remax, buyers can purchase 11.86 acres for under R1 million in Primindia, a town just outside of Brits in the North West.

The listing describes the property as a prime location for agricultural activities.

The land is currently unserviced; a buyer will need to connect water and electricity.

But there’s plenty of potential, as buyer interest in the area is growing.

In-demand location with developer-friendly property

According to Private Property, there are 5 active listings in this town; 2 of these were listed in November.

Properties sell almost as soon as they list.

That’s because supply is limited, even as demand grows.

So far this year, the South African Deeds Office recorded 8 sales in Primindia with an average sale price of R600 000.

But Primindia could be the region’s next up-and-coming area.

Abutting the Crocodile River, the property offers proximity to Brits, the bushveld, and a host of Game Reserves.

It’s also at the cusp of a population boom.

Since 2011, Brits’ population has nearly doubled.

According to the 2011 census, the town was home to 53 511 people. Today, Brits has 100 030 residents.

The expansion has pushed buyers further from the city centre.

Platinum mining community

Primindia is attracting some well-heeled residents.

Currently, there’s a 3-bedroom home on the market listed for R6 million, 6 times the average sale price in Brits and 10 times the average sale price for Primindia.

The home is set on 4.8 hectares and has 500 square metres of living space.

In neighbouring Brits and Rustenburg, considered South Africa’s platinum belt, roughly 125 tonnes of platinum are extracted every year.

An increase in mining production and industry growth has also meant population growth.

Population expansion has also aided property prices.

In Brits, property prices have increased 20% since the start of the year.

Safety in Brits

But buyers may be hesitant because of rising crime in Brits.

In the last 7 years, crime in Brits rose 19.1%, according to South African Police Service (SAPS) data.

Crime peaked in 2025.

Violent crime and drug-related crime have accelerated the increase.

In the year ending March 2021, violent crime surpassed property crime for the first time since SAPS started reporting on its data.

Violent crime has been rising ever since.
