Charlie Coyle led the way with two goals, two assists, four points and a +5 plus/minus rating to lead the way, matching his career high for points in a game, while Mathieu Olivier added a goal and two assists. Cole Sillinger and former Avalanche star Valeri Nichushkin finished with a goal and assist each and Zach Werenski added two assists to push his season total to 12 in 13 games.

Twelve Blue Jackets contributed at least a point in a rout that included four straight goals to blow the game open in the second period, and Cam Talbot earned the win in net by making 26 saves.

The victory ends a two-game skid for the Blue Jackets (6-7-1), who wore new gray jerseys as part of the NHL's league wide "Hometown Remix" uniform rollout. They'll wear them 12 more times in home games before the calendar flips to 2027.

Turning point

After getting off to a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Olivier and Provorov, the Blue Jackets had that margin cut in half, 2-1, when Makar scored with 9:03 left in the opening frame. The Avalanche were then gifted a late power play when Matthew Knies was called for high-sticking Parker Kelly with 2.3 seconds left on the clock.

Colorado started the second with 1:57 left on the man-advantage, but couldn't pull even before Christiansen scored with a long one-timer off a pass from Olivier put the Jackets up 3-1 at 4:19 of the second. It was the first of four straight goals for Columbus in a span of 8:23 to open up a 6-1 lead.

The Avalanche cut it to 6-2 with a 5-on-3 advantage late in the second, but the Jackets' lead was too much to overcome.

Goal of the game

Nichushkin's goal with 7:18 left in the second was a beauty that put the Blue Jackets up 6-1 just 39 seconds after Sillinger scored their fifth goal.

Getting the puck off a short pass from Sean Monahan just inside his own blue line, Nichushkin carried it through the neutral zone and over the Avalanche blue line before going around Makar for a quick wrist shot that beat Blackwood to the near side.

It was Nichushkin's second goal of the season, first since Oct. 10 in St. Louis and first scored with his own shot. Nichushkin's first goal after the Jackets acquired him in June from the Avalanche was scored when Monahan's shot deflected off in St. Louis.

Save of the game

Less than a minute before Christiansen's goal, Logan O'Connor got a breakaway from the Jackets' blue line that could've tied it 2-2 and given Colorado momentum. Instead, Talbot ventured just outside his crease to cut off the angle and made a huge stop to keep his team in front by a goal.

Blue Jackets lineup notes

The Blue Jackets scratched defensemen Erik Gudbranson and Emil Andrae along with forward Dmitri Voronkov. It was the first time Gudbranson, who's saddled with a -9 plus/minus rating, was a healthy scratch in five seasons playing for the Blue Jackets.

Voronkov, meanwhile, sat for the third straight game and fifth time this season while Andrae sat for the fifth straight time and eighth time in the first 13 games.
