Colorado fans stormed the field after the win, but the show of support was criticized by former NFL player Brandon Stokley, who used the moment to troll the program and its supporters.
“😂😂 can’t wait to see what bowl game they go to. They’re going to a bowl game right??” Stokley wrote on X.
Stokley had earlier sarcastically said it was time for a parade in Boulder.
“Apparently it’s time for a parade for @CUBuffsFootball. They won a game. Time to celebrate right?” he wrote on X.
Deion Sanders Had Some Special Words for the Colorado Fans
While Brandon Stokley’s comments may have come off a bit cynical, Deion Sanders was pleased as punch with the fans and made sure to credit them after the victory.
“Young men are happy. Staff is happy and the fans are happy. But God bless the fan base. Still showed up, still cheered…and still supported,” he said after the game, as reported by SI. “And still was energetic. They’re not truly opinionated like some of us are because we’re up in our age and we’re angry and we’re hostile about how things panned out, then played for us.”
He also had a bit to say about quarterback Julian Lewis, who was hospitalized earlier in the week.
“We’re praying for J [Julian Lewis] and all the other guys who had surgery. We’re praying for them as well.”
Colorado’s next game is against Arizona State next Saturday.
