My overall record this season is 46-58-2, which is slightly ahead of the collective BGN community at 45-59-2. (Note: We weren’t able to get last week’s PATS posted due to time constraints. Let’s just assume we each went 7-7.)
Here are suggestions when trying to beat the odds.
NFL WEEK 8 GAMES
TENNESSEE TITANS at CINCINNATI BENGALS (-12.5): Joe Burrow has the third-shortest MVP odds. He should be able to light up a Titans defense that now lacks Jeffery Simmons. PICK: Bengals -12.5
Loading…BALTIMORE RAVENS at BUFFALO BILLS (-3): Lamar Jackson is back. The Ravens need this game more. PICK: Ravens +3
Loading…ARIZONA CARDINALS at DALLAS COWBOYS (-7): The Cardinals have been the Cowboys’ bugaboo and Dallas is coming off short rest. The Cowboys will win the game but their defense is bad enough to allow the Cardinals to cover. PICK: Cardinals +7
Loading…CLEVELAND BROWNS at PITTSBURGH STEELERS (-3.5): The Browns have a chance to sweep the Steelers for the first time since 1988. Cleveland has made a habit of proving their doubters wrong thus far … but I can’t give them the benefit of the doubt in this spot. PICK: Steelers -3.5
Loading…INDIANAPOLIS COLTS at JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS (-10.5): Everyone is expecting the Colts to pack it in because they’re selling off pieces. I think they’ll turn in a good effort in a loss which the Jags getting a little overconfident. It’s still a division game and Shane Steichen is trying to not get fired. PICK: Colts +10.5
Loading…MINNESOTA VIKINGS at DETROIT LIONS (-3.5): Look, the Vikings aren’t going undefeated. They’re going to lose at some point, especially given their struggles on offense. It’s not difficult to envision the Lions being the team to hand them their first loss. PICK: Lions -3.5
Loading…ATLANTA FALCONS at TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS (-2.5): The Falcons are the weirdest team in the league; not really sure what to expect from them on a weekly basis. The Bucs seem like they’re starting to figure some things out. PICK: Buccaneers -2.5
Loading…LAS VEGAS RAIDERS at NEW YORK JETS (-1.5): The Raiders have cooled off after their hot start but I don’t want to bank on Aaron Glenn here. The Jets’ head coach has been awful at game management. PICK: Raiders +1.5
Loading…LOS ANGELES CHARGERS at LOS ANGELES RAMS (-6.5): You know, it would fit this disappointing Rams season if they lost to the Bolts. Screw it. PICK: Chargers +6.5
Loading…KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (-1.5) at DENVER BRONCOS: I refuse to bet on Bo Nix over Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs will bounce back after getting shut down in Seattle. PICK: Chiefs -1.5
Loading…NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (-7) at MIAMI DOLPHINS: The Patriots’ vibes aren’t good and the Dolphins might have some life in them after winning last week. They could give New England a scare on this Halloween weekend. PICK: Dolphins +7
Loading…PHILADELPHIA EAGLES at WASHINGTON COMMANDERS (-6): According to ESPN, teams in the Commanders’ situation entering this game (home team favorites coming off a bye playing against road underdogs off Monday night) are 1-9-1 against the spread since 2000. The Eagles are legitimately one of the worst teams in the NFL; they rank bottom five in point differential, DVOA, and weighted offensive/defensive EPA per play. But Washington isn’t that much better. I can’t take the Eagles to win but I’ll take them to cover in a close loss. PICK: Eagles +6
Loading…CHICAGO BEARS at SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (-3): Exciting matchup. It’s hard to go against the Seahawks in their own building but Ben Johnson’s Bears are a real threat, especially after adding Jeffery Simmons to a defensive line that needed a boost. Let’s take the points. PICK: Bears +3
