Michigan vs. Rutgers Over/Under: Predictions for the Wolverines

· Yahoo Sports

Michigan heads to Rutgers this weekend looking to get back on track after another frustrating offensive performance against Indiana. With questions surrounding the quarterback position, the struggling offensive line and an inconsistent rushing attack, there are plenty of intriguing storylines to watch. Here are five Over/Under predictions for the Wolverines against the Scarlet Knights.

1. Bryce Underwood Offensive Snaps — 3.5

Prediction: UNDER

The quarterback situation remains one of Michigan's biggest storylines. Tommy Carr replaced Underwood against Penn State and started against Indiana, but the offense still hasn't found much success. Unless Carr struggles significantly or Michigan builds a comfortable lead, Underwood could spend another Saturday watching from the sideline. He played just two snaps against Indiana last weekend.

2. Michigan Total Rushing Yards — 189.5

Prediction: OVER

If Michigan can't run the football against Rutgers, when will it? The Scarlet Knights rank No. 128 nationally against the run giving up 199.14 yards per game, presenting a golden opportunity for Jordan Marshall, Savion Hiter and Michigan's struggling offensive line. Kyle Whittingham wants a physical rushing attack, and this matchup should provide an opportunity to establish one.

3. Savion Hiter Rushing Attempts — 9.5

Prediction: OVER

This one piggybacks off No. 2. Hiter is averaging just over nine totes per game this year but he needs at least 10 carries against the Scarlet Knights. Marshall figures to remain heavily involved, but Hiter should receive plenty of opportunities against a vulnerable Rutgers defense. Michigan desperately needs explosive plays, and Hiter possesses the talent to provide them. If the Wolverines commit to running the football, double-digit carries for the freshman seem realistic.

4. Andrew Marsh Receptions — 4.5

Prediction: UNDER

Marsh has the talent to be a 5+ receptions guy each week, but it's only happened twice this year (UTEP, Iowa). JJ Buchanan emerged as Bryce Underwood's favorite target, so it'll be interesting to see if that changes at all if Carr remains under center. Marsh can definitely still be an important weapon in Michigan's passing attack, but opportunities could be limited this week if the Wolverines establish the run. Marsh could make an impact without necessarily catching five passes.

5. Michigan Total Points — 24.5

Prediction: OVER

Michigan's offensive struggles have been well documented, but Rutgers represents an opportunity for a much-needed breakthrough. The Wolverines should be able to establish the run, create manageable passing situations and sustain drives. If Michigan can't score at least 25 points against this opponent, the pressure on offensive coordinator Jason Beck will only intensify. The Wolverines are currently averaging just 20.3 points per game, which puts them at No. 118 in the country. Kyle Whittingham constantly talks about Jason Beck's track record and how good he's been in the past, but at this point, it's a "what have you done for me lately" situation. He's now seven games into his Michigan career — it's time to forget about the success at Utah.
