This follows the 76ers center's 28 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists in Saturday’s 127-116 win over the Milwaukee Bucks. Embiid said he wanted to play, but the seven-time All-Star was expected to miss Sunday’s game because he doesn't usually play back-to-back nights.
The Sixers (3-0) will also be without Jabari Walker, who left Saturday’s game with left knee soreness. Meanwhile, Dom Barlow (low back stress reaction), Tacko Fall (left quadriceps strain), and Ariel Hukporti (season-ending right Achilles tendon tear) also remain sidelined.
For Detroit (2-0), All-Star center Jalen Duran is sidelined for the next two weeks with a strained right hamstring.
