Georgia transfer leads the SEC in multiple receiving statistics

· Yahoo Sports

Entering Week 8, a Georgia Bulldogs transfer leads the SEC in receiving yards per game. Mississippi State Bulldogs wide receiver Anthony Evans leads the SEC with 102.3 receiving yards per game. Evans has 47 receptions (tied for most in the SEC) for 614 receiving yards and five touchdowns this season. Evans has the most receptions per game of any player in the SEC at 7.83.

Evans is a speedster and a former four-star recruit. He showed a lot of potential at Georgia, but he has been much more productive at Mississippi State.

Evans has been a reliable target for quarterback Kamario Taylor, who is questionable to return for Mississippi State's Week 8 game against Oklahoma. Evans was not a highly heralded transfer, but he's proven to be an excellent find for the other Bulldogs.

Evans has over double the production of Georgia's leading receiver Craig Dandridge, who has 17 receptions for 310 yards and a touchdown. Evans has shown NFL potential and his ability to return punts should help him get consideration in the NFL draft.

"As a whole, that group was the one everyone wanted to question or say things about coming in (to the season)," Georgia coach Kirby Smart said during Georgia's bye week. "I've been really pleased with the receiver group as a whole. There are a couple guys that you don't get to see, and that haven't played as much that get really good work in practice and have been coming alone and doing good things that we hope to see this week."

Georgia has a solid group of receivers with Dandridge, Talyn Taylor, Sacovie White-Helton and London Humphreys all having strong seasons. However, it is hard not to look at Evans' production and think 'what if'.
