The San Francisco 49ers will be facing the Washington Commanders on Monday Night Football as they try to extend their undefeated streak. They’re one of the best teams in the league, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if they got even better over the coming weeks. That could be because of getting players back from injury, or simply making a trade to improve their roster.

49ers insider David Lombardi is already throwing hits out about the latter, and after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers fell to 1-5 after their loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, he hinted at a specific player, which was Vita Vea.

This doesn’t mean that the 49ers are interested in him, but they could definitely use a player of his caliber on the defensive line. Vea and the Buccaneers weren’t on the same page before the start of the season, but they were able to give him a contract extension.
Now, with the Buccaneers’ season looking the way it is, it would be in their best interest to at least try to trade some players for picks. Vea could get them something good, but they also might want to stand pat and see if they can revive their season when Baker Mayfield gets back.
As for the 49ers, if they believe they need one or two pieces to truly feel like contenders, they may offer whatever they have. The defense has dealt with some injuries, so adding someone to the defensive line or secondary could be their top priorities. Of course, with any possible trade, another team has to be willing to give up a player or any other asset.
It’ll be interesting to see if the 49ers actually go after a player like Vea, or if Lombardi’s picture was just a pipe dream at the moment.
