Following the Indianapolis Colts’ victory over the Washington Commanders at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, Kelce has had some down time to take in the sights of London. The former Philadelphia Eagles centre has also had time to play in a local rugby game.
The 38-year-old was invited to play for the Old Streetonians against Hackney RFC ahead of his broadcasting role this weekend for the Eagles’ visit to north London. Despite the retired NFL star playing a completely different sport, there were a lot of surprised players out on the field in London.
What shocked UK rugby players about former NFL star Jason Kelce
Kelce has come under some heat from those back in the US after his broadcasting career has taken off to another level over the last 12 months. Many feel as if Kelce is being over-used by ESPN on too many of their shows.
However, the rugby players in London were delighted to have him present for their game, with one left shocked by Kelce’s lack of ego.
“I handed him off at one point and put him on his back in front of his team-mates and all of our fans as well. I hope they release that footage because I’ll be dining out on it forever if they do,” one told BBC Sport.
“He just got back up and absolutely smashed me later on when he had the ball, running through me. So, I don’t think he has an ego. I think he’s just up for the physicality of it all.”
For a former player as highly-regarded in the NFL and now of such stardom due to his ties with Taylor Swift, it is apparent that Kelce is still waving the flag for the US with his charming personality. Seemingly, Kelce bought into the opportunity and gave it his absolute best.
“We took them to one of our locals [pub], and they put their cards behind the bar, chatting with the lads for a few hours after the game and really getting involved,” another said.
