“All these old Mike Ditka stories and videos being shared are just phenomenal. What an absolute legend,” Watt wrote on his X account.

Ditka was an inspirational figure who changed the fortunes of the Chicago Bears organisation. He won the NFL championship with them as a player in 1963, and then coached them to win a Super Bowl in 1986.

This is the only Super Bowl title the Bears have won, and he helped them win it in style, as they had some of the best defensive numbers in the history of the NFL.

His Bears unit led the league in 7 defensive categories and got into the playoffs with a 15-1 regular season record. In the playoffs, they won three games and conceded only 10 points, with all of them coming in the Super Bowl game against the New England Patriots.

After a successful coaching career, Ditka joined broadcast media and worked with NBC. He later also joined CBS before also working with Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic on ESPN for Monday Night Football.

Steve Mandell, Ditka’s agent and business partner, told USA Today that the legendary NFL coach died of natural causes.
