The Atlanta Braves were defeated in four games in the National League Division Series by the Los Angeles Dodgers, ultimately bringing their season to an end. Now, the Braves are preparing to focus on the offseason. Atlanta has a number of players who will enter free agency, but there is one specific player that the ball club needs to avoid re-signing.

This team needs to focus on bringing in more starting pitching during the offseason. Tyler Mahle will be a free agent, so bringing him back should be a priority.

Meanwhile, Atlanta has infield depth. Re-signing Mauricio Dubon should be a goal as well given his versatility. Shortstop Ha-Seong Kim, however, is no longer a good fit for the Braves. Atlanta needs to go in a different direction at shortstop.

Why Braves should avoid re-signing Ha-Seong Kim

Kim was expected to be the starting shortstop in Atlanta in 2026. An injury kept him out to begin the season, however. Kim had trouble finding any consistency once he returned from the injured list.

The infielder ended up appearing in a total of 51 games. He hit just .116/.219/.140 during that span. Perhaps his numbers would have been better if he had a more normal season, as finding consistency while missing time due to injury can prove to be a challenge. Nevertheless, Kim did not do much to help Atlanta while on the field.

He also failed to record a hit across eight postseason plate appearances. Kim did record two walks and score one run.

Ha-Seong Kim is still a player who can contribute at the big league level. A fresh start is probably best for both Kim and the Braves, though.
