SECOND SUSPECT ARRESTED IN MONICA DUBE MURDER
The Gauteng Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) reportedly arrested the second suspect on Monday, 6 October, following an intelligence-driven investigation that linked the 39-year-old to Dube’s murder.
The first suspect, Sipho Lucky Mahlangu was arrested in July and he later abandoned his bail application.
Mahlangu was arrested after Dube’s daughter allegedly recognised him at a taxi rank and alerted police. He faces charges of murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
According to police, Mahlangu and his accomplice allegedly broke into Dube’s home in the early hours of 13 June before shooting her in her bedroom and fleeing with her cell phone.
The EFF in Gauteng has welcomed the latest development and commended the task team for continuing to pursue those responsible for Dube’s killing.
“From the beginning, the EFF has maintained that the murder of fighter Monica Dube could not have been the work of one individual acting alone. The circumstances surrounding her assassination demanded that investigators pursue every person who participated in, facilitated or may have orchestrated the killing,” the EFF said.
The party said the arrest of the second suspect was an important step towards uncovering the circumstances surrounding Dube’s death.
