Backdrop
Precisely three weeks after the 2-2 draw at home to SC Freiburg, it’s back to league business for Eintracht with an away match. On Saturday 10 October at 18:30 CEST, the Eagles take on Leipzig on Bundesliga Matchday 5. It’s a meeting of two teams who are neighbours in mid-table: Leipzig sit in ninth place with six points from the first four matches, while Frankfurt are tenth with five points.
“Planning things during the international break hasn’t exactly been easy,” admitted head coach Adi Hütter. “A three-week stoppage is certainly unusual – especially since only four matches have been played. It will be intriguing to see what effect that has.” Speaking after the 4-0 friendly win against Bundesliga 2 club Eintracht Braunschweig last week, Hütter added: “It was a good test for the boys. I saw what I wanted to see.”
Steady on the road
Eintracht have usually come back from their recent travels with something, losing just one of their last five away games in all competitions: a 3-2 loss at Borussia Dortmund in May. This season, the Eagles have registered four of their five points and six of their nine goals away from home.
Fast starters
Frankfurt’s tendency to start games quickly could prove key here. They’ve scored in the first 10 minutes in all four league outings in 2026/27, netted five goals in the opening quarter of an hour and led at half-time in every game. Much of that has been down to Younes Ebnoutalib, with four goals and one assist, and Jonathan Burkardt, who has three goals and an assist. With 36 and 27 percent respectively, the two Germany internationals have the best chance conversion rates in the Bundesliga so far among all players who have had at least 10 attempts.
And the duo will be hoping to fly out of the blocks again at the weekend as they return to the Bundesliga stage.
