Micah Parsons’ Packers return takes another turn with latest Matt LaFleur update

· Yahoo Sports

The Green Bay Packers are still waiting for a clearer timeline on Micah Parsons’ return. Head coach Matt LaFleur said Parsons will not resume practicing this week as he continues working his way back from ACL and meniscus surgery, according to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky.

The latest update means the Packers will have to wait even longer before seeing Parsons back on the field. The star pass rusher has not played since suffering the knee injury late last season, and his continued absence leaves Green Bay without one of its most important defensive weapons. LaFleur did offer some encouragement, noting that the 27-year-old has made noticeable progress during the past week.

“[The] guy is working his butt off to be out there,” LaFleur said, according to Demovsky.

The Packers coach also acknowledged that Micah Parsons has “made some good progress in the last week but time will tell.”

Parsons has been on a deliberate recovery timeline since undergoing surgery in December, with the Packers avoiding any pressure to bring him back before he is ready. His rehabilitation has also presented an added challenge because doctors repaired his ACL while addressing damage to the meniscus, giving him a more involved recovery than a typical ACL procedure.

The Packers star edge-rusher previously identified mid-October as a “realistic” target for his comeback, while also acknowledging the possibility of facing the Dallas Cowboys on October 18. However, Parsons made no promises about that timeline, stressing that there was still plenty of rehabilitation work ahead for him and the medical team.

The possibility of seeing Parsons return by mid-October is becoming less certain as he remains out of practice. His comeback clock will not officially start until the Packers designate him for a return, at which point Green Bay will have 21 days to evaluate him in practice. The team must activate him during that period or leave him sidelined for the remainder of the process.
