More than two decades after filming Mean Girls in Toronto, Lindsay Lohan is back in the city — this time for a new Netflix rom-com.

The 40-year-old actress was spotted filming Return to You outside an office building in Toronto on Oct. 1, wearing a black dress and matching blazer.
Lohan is starring opposite Henry Golding, best known for Crazy Rich Asians , in the upcoming Netflix movie.
Return to You reunites Lohan with director Mark Waters, who also directed Mean Girls and Freaky Friday — two early-2000s hits starring Lohan, per Toronto.com . Lohan is also a producer on the new film.
What’s the movie about?
The movie is set in 2008 and follows Lohan as a powerful but lonely lawyer whose life takes a strange turn when she mistakenly receives an emotional DVD meant for the husband of a dying woman.
“By a twist of fate, she mistakenly receives a very emotional DVD from a dying woman addressed to her husband. Guided only by the clues on the disc, the lawyer sets out to find the woman’s spouse,” Netflix’s Tudum said .
It sounds like exactly the kind of saccharine romantic story Netflix has made a home for — and Lohan has become pretty familiar with that territory.
Production began Sept. 28 and is scheduled to wrap Nov. 10, according to Ontario Creates . Netflix hasn’t announced a release date yet, but blogTO reports the movie is expected to premiere in 2027.
Lohan’s big-screen comeback
Return to You will be Lohan’s latest Netflix rom-com following her comeback to the big screen. She starred with Chord Overstreet in 2022’s Falling for Christmas , then appeared in Irish Wish with Ed Speleers in 2024 and Our Little Secret with Kristin Chenoweth later that year, per Digital Spy .
She also returned to one of her most beloved roles in 2025, playing Anna Coleman again opposite Jamie Lee Curtis in Disney’s Freakier Friday .
Lohan’s career began when she was just three years old , modelling before appearing in dozens of commercials and landing a role on Another World at age 10. The Parent Trap in 1998 turned her into a star, followed by a string of major hits.
Then came the much messier years: Addiction struggles, legal problems, arrests and rehab stints. In 2012, she also posed for Playboy in a Marilyn Monroe -inspired shoot and was reportedly paid nearly $1 million.
These days, though, Lohan is in a very different place. She’s married, a mother of one and back to working steadily in Hollywood.
