The San Antonio Spurs are more hungry than ever after losing in the NBA Finals to the New York Knicks after being in control for most of the series. It was late-game blunders that cost them the chance to win a title.

This season has a different vibe. However, the biggest thing from the summer was locking up Victor Wembanyama.

“San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama has agreed to a five-year, $252 million maximum rookie-scale contract extension, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania on Friday. The deal includes a player option in the fifth season, sources said. Wembanyama decided on the 25% maximum instead of the 30% supermax escalators to $303 million after he and the Spurs went through multiple frameworks, sources said. The deal could potentially save the Spurs roughly $50 million over the next five years," ESPN's Michael C. Wright wrote.

The young talent for the Spurs is insane, which includes Dylan Harper and Stephon Castle. The duo is already being compared to Steph Curry and Klay Thompson.

“If I’m a guard in the NBA, I do not want to see them boys the next 10 years. They’re going to be the new Steph and Klay,” NBA legend Charles Barkley said.

Harper is going to be one of the more interesting players to watch this season as he looks to take even more of a leap. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported that the Spurs view him higher than De’Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle.

“The Spurs internally believe Dylan Harper is their second best player. That’s not a slight on De'Aaron Fox or Stephon Castle. Harper is a stud,” Windhorst said.

That is some major praise from the organization, as it is very clear that they have some big things planned for Harper. He really came alive in the playoffs during the summer as he showed he can handle big moments.

The lefty guard is going to be the future of the organization, there is no doubt about that. It is just a matter of time before he really takes off, and San Antonio believes it is going to be very soon.
