Fantasy football PPR rankings for NFL Week 5: Puka Nacua is back!
· Yahoo Sports
My Week 5 fantasy football PPR rankings put Matthew Stafford, Kyren Williams and Puka Nacua atop their positions against Buffalo. Injuries could still reshape the board, with superstars like Lamar Jackson, Saquon Barkley and Ja’Marr Chase among the biggest names to watch.
These rankings are an early draft. Monday night’s Falcons-Saints game hasn’t been played, and practice reports will change the outlook throughout the week. Players listed here are not guaranteed to play. I’ll update the rankings before Thursday’s game and again before Sunday’s kickoffs.

The full positional rankings tables are at the end of the article. I try to update the rankings almost every day throughout the week, with big updates ahead of Thursday night’s game and Sunday’s 1 p.m. ET kickoffs.

Fantasy football Week 5 outlook
Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase (1) looks on during warmups before the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars | Katie Stratman-Imagn ImagesWeek 4 left fantasy managers sorting through injuries while several offenses found answers. Nacua returned from injury and topped 125 receiving yards, giving the Rams their top target back. Cincinnati lost Chase to a concussion, and Barkley’s hamstring injury creates another backfield to monitor.
Detroit-Arizona stands out on my Week 5 board. The Lions have allowed the most fantasy points to quarterbacks and tight ends, helping push Jacoby Brissett to QB6 and Trey McBride to TE1.

Quarterback outlook
Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs (0) celebrates a touchdown against New York Jets with quarterback Jared Goff (16) | USA TODAY Network via Reuters Connect (Reuters)Stafford gets my QB1 spot against a Buffalo defense allowing 25 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks. Nacua’s return strengthens that call after the Rams rallied past Philadelphia, though Stafford also threw two interceptions.
Jared Goff is QB2 at Arizona, another defense allowing 25 points per game to the position. Josh Allen follows at QB3 in the same Bills-Rams matchup, giving that game two of my top three quarterbacks.
Brissett at QB6 is the aggressive play. Detroit just allowed Tetairoa McMillan to catch 14 passes for 192 yards and two touchdowns, and its problems help Arizona’s passing outlook.
Joe Burrow remains QB4 at Miami, but Cincinnati’s receiver injuries could change that placement. Lamar Jackson’s QB15 rank is provisional after his ankle injury, with Tyler Huntley waiting behind him. Early reporting described Jackson as day-to-day, so that ranking could rise quickly with encouraging practice news.
Jalen Hurts is QB16 at Jacksonville after Philadelphia went 0-for-12 on third down Sunday. The offense needs to prove it can sustain drives.

Running back outlook
Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor (28) celebrates his touchdown against the Washington Commanders | Kirby Lee-Imagn ImagesKyren Williams leads my running backs against Buffalo, which has allowed 22.5 fantasy points per game to the position (third-most). Jonathan Taylor is RB2 at Pittsburgh, while Chase Brown takes RB3 against a Miami defense allowing 23.5.
Brown’s receiving work adds to the case. He caught 11 passes for 71 yards Sunday, and Cincinnati could need those short throws again while its receivers recover.
D’Andre Swift at RB7 gets the best matchup: Green Bay has surrendered 25 points per game to running backs, most in the NFL. Kyle Monangai is RB17 in the same game, though his thumb injury needs monitoring.
Emanuel Wilson lands at RB19 after turning Jadarian Price’s absence into 120 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns. His 21 carries and three catches support another start against San Francisco, with George Holani well behind him at RB40.
Javonte Williams is RB16 after scoring three rushing touchdowns against Houston. Tampa Bay presents a tougher matchup, allowing 11 points per game to running backs.
Barkley’s RB39 placement reflects uncertainty after his hamstring injury. If Philadelphia rules him out, Tank Bigsby and Will Shipley would need immediate reassessment.

Wide receiver outlook
Oct 4, 2026; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA; Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua (12) looks on during warmups before a game against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field. Mandatory Credit: Eric Hartline-Imagn Images Credit: IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect (Reuters)Nacua takes WR1 after his return helped the Rams beat Philadelphia. Buffalo has allowed 27 fantasy points per game to receivers (fourth-most), and I also have Davante Adams at WR13.
Amon-Ra St. Brown is WR2 at Arizona, with Jameson Williams at WR16. Michael Wilson ranks WR8 on the other side, making Detroit-Arizona a game with several strong fantasy options.
Zay Flowers holds WR3 after producing 119 yards and a touchdown in Sunday’s first half. That ranking, however, needs a healthy Jackson. A Huntley start would force me to revisit Flowers and the rest of Baltimore’s passing game.
CeeDee Lamb sits at WR10 despite a career-high 17 catches for 189 yards and the winning touchdown against Houston. Tampa Bay has allowed only 14.5 points per game to receivers (fourth-fewest), keeping him below players with better matchups.
Chase is WR42 pending concussion clearance, not because I expect that level of production if healthy. Tee Higgins is WR18 after his 157-yard game, but he also left with an adductor injury. His practice status matters just as much before treating him as Cincinnati’s clear replacement target.

Tight end outlook
New York Giants cornerback Greg Newsome II (20) tackles Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride (85) | Vincent Carchietta-Imagn ImagesMcBride leads the tight ends against Detroit, which has allowed 19 fantasy points per game to the position, by far the most in the league. That’s the clearest matchup advantage on this board and makes him my preferred tight end among this week’s elite options.
Sam LaPorta is TE2 on the other side after catching a late touchdown against Carolina. Arizona has allowed 12 points per game to tight ends, giving both offenses a favorable route through the middle.
George Kittle holds TE3 at Seattle, while Isaiah Likely is TE4 at Washington. The Commanders have allowed 13.5 points per game to tight ends, making Likely one of my stronger starts outside the usual top tier.
Brock Bowers is TE6 despite New England allowing just two points per game to the position. I still value his role enough to keep him in starting lineups.
Mark Andrews is TE7 after scoring Sunday, but Jackson’s ankle adds risk. Mike Gesicki, TE14, offers a streaming option after his touchdown against Jacksonville, especially if Cincinnati’s receiver injuries leave more targets available.

Kicker outlook
Brandon Aubrey leads my kickers against Tampa Bay, which has allowed 10.5 fantasy points per game to the position (second-most). Dallas gave him chances from 62 and 65 yards Sunday, though one was blocked and the other missed. That willingness to try long kicks keeps his ceiling high.
Evan McPherson, Ka’imi Fairbairn and Spencer Shrader follow, with Will Reichard at K5. Reichard made all five field-goal attempts against Miami and has opened the season 12-for-12.
Jake Bates is K11 at Arizona after making four field goals Sunday. He’s a reasonable streaming option, though Arizona’s 6.25 points allowed per game keeps him outside my top 10.
DST outlook
Houston leads my defenses at Tennessee despite allowing Dallas to rally for 34 points Sunday. This is a matchup call: the Titans have yielded 12 fantasy points per game to opposing defenses.
Denver is second against a Chargers offense that allowed four sacks and two interceptions from Justin Herbert in Seattle. Patrick Surtain II and Riley Moss both left Sunday’s game, so Denver’s secondary needs monitoring.
Baltimore is third at Atlanta, followed by Cincinnati at Miami and Minnesota against New Orleans. The Falcons have allowed 15.87 points per game to defenses (second-most), though Monday’s game could change that figure.
Dallas at No. 6 is another matchup play. Tampa Bay has surrendered a league-high 17.5 points per game to opposing defenses.
