No. 22 Boise State is hunting its fourth straight win at home against Utah State on Saturday, when the pair will each play their first Pac-12 Conference game of the season. The Broncos have bucked to three in a row since losing to Oregon last month, while the Aggies are 1-3 but coming off their first win of the year.
Quarterback Grady Brosterhous led Utah State with 242 passing yards and 89 yards on the ground as it earned a hard-fought 21-10 win at home to Troy. However, aptly named head coach Bronco Mendenhall will need a more refined display from his side at Albertsons Stadium this weekend if they’re to avoid going 1-4.
The last 10 meetings between these teams have each gone in Boise State’s favor, with the last Aggies victory in this head-to-head falling back in 2015. The Broncos trailed 24-13 with a little more than four minutes left in the third quarter when these teams clashed in Utah last year, only to find two late scores and turn the game on its head for a 25-24 Boise State win.
BYU transfer McCae Hillstead hasn’t featured since the disappointing Week 1 loss to FCS program Idaho State and is expected to keep serving as Brosterhous’ backup despite overcoming a forearm injury. Meanwhile, senior Broncos QB Maddux Madsen aims to build on a fine campaign thus far, boasting nine touchdown passes without a single interception, with three of those scores by tight end Matt Wagner.
