Florida State (2-2) was rolling right along last year. It was 3-0 with a shocking win over Alabama, the showdown against Miami was about to be a national thing, and then (cue the sad trombone) Virginia (3-1) came up with a thrilling 46-38 win on a Friday night, and that was it for the Noles.
FSU’s loss to the Cavaliers began a run of four straight losses and a 2-7 finish. This time around, it needs this game against Virginia to be the moment when things turn around after losing to SMU and Alabama before tuning up with Central Arkansas.
Virginia bounced back from a tough loss at West Virginia with a blowout over Delaware. Already 1-0 with a win over NC State in ACC play, a win in Tallahassee would be a big deal.

Why Virginia Will Win
Florida State’s secondary is being picked clean by accurate passers. SMU’s Kevin Jennings didn’t have a problem hitting his midrange passes, and Keelon Russell connected on 77% of his passes in Alabama’s easy win over the Noles.
Virginia quarterback Beau Pribula has been red hot, completing 77% of his passes with 11 touchdowns and just one pick so far. The Cavalier offense should own third downs.
Why Florida State Will Win
Florida State has just enough of a pass rush to bother Pribula, but to pull this off, it’ll be about the offense that’s showing off a decent running game. It didn’t go anywhere against Alabama, but it ran for close to 200 yards against SMU and rumbled at will against Central Arkansas and New Mexico State.
Virginia’s run defense was great in the three wins, but it couldn’t hold down the West Virginia offense in the one loss, allowing close to 250 rushing yards. Florida State has to get to at least 40 carries.
Virginia vs Florida State Prediction, Betting Lines
If Florida State is going to keep the Mike Norvell era going, this has to be a home win. With the road games at Louisville and Miami coming up, the program needs plenty of positive momentum starting now.
The Seminoles will be great for the first 20 minutes, but they won’t put Virginia away. The Cavaliers will be efficient, balanced, and effective. They won’t make the big mistakes late that FSU will.
