Joey Porter Jr. will have to wait at least one more week to make his 2026 season debut.

The Pittsburgh Steelers ruled Porter out Wednesday ahead of Thursday night’s Week 4 matchup against the Cleveland Browns, despite the cornerback being listed as a full participant in each of the team’s first two walk-throughs this week.

Porter was listed as a limited participant Wednesday, with the Steelers adding a back injury to his practice report. He previously had been listed with a “not injury related/conditioning” designation.

The news is a notable change from Tuesday, when Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy expressed hope that Porter would be available against Cleveland.

“Oh, we hope so,” McCarthy said Tuesday when asked if he expected Porter to play after his full participation Monday. “Today is another day. ... We’ll see how he does today.”

According to the injury report, the Steelers will now enter Thursday night's game without Porter and potentially without Jalen Ramsey, who is listed as questionable with a broken wrist.

Pittsburgh also ruled out running back Rico Dowdle with a toe injury. Cornerback Brandin Echols remains questionable despite clearing concussion protocol.
