All the personnel were posted at the Sewa Hydel-II power project. The accused head constable, Avdesh Kumar Singh, has been arrested.
It is unclear what led to the incident.
Singh and his wife work for the Central Industrial Security Force, reported The Indian Express. A police officer investigating the matter told the newspaper that Singh had an argument with his colleagues and company commander Ankit Kumar Pandey for bringing his child to the project site frequently.
“The couple worked in different shifts at the same site,” the unidentified officer added. “So, when one parent reported for duty, they would bring the toddler along to hand him over to the spouse returning home.”
The officer said that the couple was asked not to bring the child to the project site. On Tuesday, when the child was at the site, “someone complained about it to the company commander”, which led to the argument, he added.
Apart from Pandey, the others who were killed are sub-inspector Lakshman Singh and constables Sanjeev Kumar and Muhammad Rafiq.
