The Pittsburgh Steelers and future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers sit at 1-1 entering Week 3 action. On Sunday, they will look to improve that record with a tough division rivalry win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

Rodgers and the offense looked bad last week against the defending AFC champion New England Patriots. The passing game only produced 187 yards and an interception from Rodgers. Offensively, the team put up just three points against a stout defense.
It’s easy to overreact to poor early-season performances. There have definitely been some overreactions to how Pittsburgh looked last week.
With that being said, there is some reason to be concerned about the Steelers’ offense. First-year head coach Mike McCarthy is building an offense around a 42-year-old quarterback. Rodgers was once arguably the best quarterback in the NFL, but those days are behind him.
Keeping all of that in mind, an uncomfortable truth bomb has been dropped about the Pittsburgh offense with Rodgers leading the charge.

The Athletic’s Robert Mays made an appearance on the “Colin Cowherd Show” and made some very strong comments about Rodgers. He believes the longtime star quarterback is holding the Steelers’ offense back.
“He is trying to play the position in a way that is rooted in a different time,” Mays said. “They’re trying to play the sport in a way that no one is trying to because that’s what Aaron wants.”
Some of that could be true. There is also a part of the take that could end up being an overreaction to early-season struggles.
Only time will tell what the Pittsburgh offense actually turns into. The Steelers have put together enough talent to have success. Rodgers is still capable of being a winning quarterback.
Through the first two weeks of the 2026 NFL season, Rodgers has completed 59.5 percent of his passes for 408 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. It hasn’t been a horrific start, but it certainly hasn’t been impressive either.
If Pittsburgh wants to be a Super Bowl contender, the offense must get better. That improvement will start with the arm of Rodgers producing better numbers.
