Eskom to implement an 8-hour power outage in parts of Gauteng on Tuesday

Eskom will switch off electricity in parts of Gauteng next week to carry out planned maintenance on its distribution network.
The power utility announced the planned interruption in a notice issued by its Gauteng Communication and Stakeholder Management team. The outage will affect households and businesses in the Zonkizizwe area.

According to Eskom, the maintenance is necessary to keep the local network running reliably and to prevent unplanned faults in the future.
Areas and times affected by the power outage
Eskom confirmed that the outage will affect customers in Zonkizizwe Extensions 1, 2 and 4.
The power supply will be off on Tuesday, 29 September, from 8:00 to 16:00. This means residents will go without electricity for eight hours.
Eskom said its teams will use the time to perform essential maintenance on the distribution power lines that supply the area.
Residents should plan ahead by charging cellphones and other devices, storing water if needed, and preparing meals before the power goes off. Businesses in the affected extensions should also arrange backup plans to limit disruption to their operations.
Eskom issues safety warning to residents
Eskom urged customers to treat all electrical appliances as live at all times during the outage. The utility stressed that electricity can be restored at any time, even before the scheduled end of the maintenance window.
Residents should switch off appliances at the wall or at the main switch to protect them from possible power surges when the supply returns.
Eskom thanked customers for their cooperation and apologised for any inconvenience the maintenance may cause.
The utility also cautioned that the planned work may not go ahead as communicated if circumstances beyond its control arise. Residents should therefore keep an eye on Eskom updates closer to the day.
