PITTSBURGH — The foot injury that Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Michael Pittman Jr. is dealing with is not the same ailment that hampered him during training camp and the preseason.

“Different injury, but hopefully, I know he’d make progress, just talking to Gabe before I came over here,” Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy said during his weekly press conference on Monday. “So he’s in the evaluation group for Wednesday morning, and hopefully we’ll have a good plan for him, but I don’t have the feel one way or the other if he’s gonna be available this week.”

Pittman missed Sunday’s 20-3 loss to the New England Patriots, one in which the SteelersAaron Rodgers-led attack couldn’t get much going. Rodgers was pressured virtually all day with No. 1 wideout DK Metcalf being shadowed by the Patriots’ Christian Gonzalez.

While sidelined the first time, Pittman, who’d arrived via a trade from the Indianapolis Colts this offseason, was able to gain a better understanding for working within the offense.

“It helped me be able to process things, because obviously sometimes when you’re playing, (you’re) trying to process at the same time, but I felt like I really took that three-week period and I took the next step in this offense,” Pittman said. “Getting back, I feel like I didn’t really lose a step. I actually feel like I’m better on some of the signals and the operations.”

With the Steelers’ passing offense needing a boost, it will hope to get Pittman back quickly this time around.
