Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce’s night was cut short by an injury during Sunday’s 33-30 overtime loss to the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.

Pierce experienced discomfort in his left heel with 1:45 remaining in the first quarter. After pulling up on a route, the 26-year-old was seen hopping on one leg and was unable to put weight on his injured side. Two athletic trainers helped carry him to the medical tent before he was eventually taken to the locker room on a cart.

Indianapolis initially listed Pierce as questionable to return, but he was quickly ruled out in the second quarter. He finished the game with just one reception for 11 yards.

Head coach Shane Steichen said Pierce’s X-rays were negative, but the receiver will undergo further evaluation Monday. Pierce was seen leaving the visiting locker room on crutches with his injured heel in a boot.

The injury is particularly concerning because it involves the same leg on which Pierce underwent surgery in March. The procedure addressed a lingering ankle issue dating back to the end of the 2024 season, with the Colts previously describing it as a “clean-up procedure.” Pierce’s recovery continued into training camp, and he did not return to practice until Aug. 27 before being cleared to play in Week 1.

Pierce entered the season as a big part of Indianapolis’ offense coming off the most productive season of his career. He recorded 47 receptions for 1,003 yards and six touchdowns while averaging 21.3 yards per catch, the highest mark in the NFL. He also led the league in yards per reception in each of the past two seasons.

Pierce signed a four-year, $114 million contract in March after his breakout season in 2025. He had four catches for 61 yards in the Colts’ Week 1 loss to the Baltimore Ravens before catching one pass for 11 yards against Kansas City.

With Pierce out, Laquon Treadwell took the majority of his snaps and finished with three catches for 61 yards. Josh Downs led the Colts with seven receptions for 72 yards, with Keenan Allen and Tyler Warren expected to see increased roles in Pierce’s absence.
