Andy Reid: Josh Simmons "working his tail off" to return

On Sunday, PFT reported that Chiefs left tackle Josh Simmons is considered week-to-week with his back injury. Simmons has not been on the field for the season's first two weeks, with undrafted rookie Kahlil Benson starting at the position instead.

Asked about Simmons in his Monday video conference, head coach Andy Reid said the second-year left tackle is “doing everything” in the building as he works his way back to the field.
“He’s working his tail off, it’s just — we knew it would be a couple, two, three, four games in here as long as he was making progress,” Reid said. “So, we’ll just see where he’s at.
“He’s kind of in that flex area to see exactly how that thing, if it’s calmed down, and some of the swelling has gone down. But we’ll see.”
Also on the injury front, rookie cornerback Mansoor Delane was active for Sunday’s win over the Colts after injuring his shoulder during the Week 1 victory over the Broncos. But Delane did not end up taking a snap.
Reid noted Delane was effectively available only for an emergency situation.
“[Delane’s shoulder] wasn’t coming around as fast as we wanted,” Reid said. “He was right on the border there of, alright, you can get in and play and play a full game. And/or, if we can, get it to calm down a little bit more and maybe he’s better this week. So, it was a tweener position to be in.
“But he wanted to suit up and, if needed, he could’ve gone in. But we were trying to keep him from having to play a full game in there, for sure.”
The Chiefs will be on the road to face the Dolphins in Week 3.
