‘Worry for the Bengals’ — Ex-NFL QB Delivers Blunt Reality Check on Joe Burrow’s Injury Ahead of Grueling Texans Matchup

Joe Burrow was limited to stretching at Wednesday’s practice as he dealt with back tightness. While the injury alone doesn’t appear serious at this point, his lengthy injury history raises some concerns.

Burrow’s current state adds another layer of concern for the Cincinnati Bengals ahead of their tough road matchup with the Houston Texans. Let’s say, even if he starts, there will be questions about whether he can finish the game.

The last thing Cincinnati needs is for Burrow to start and then be forced out early. That concern has now led a former NFL star quarterback to deliver a blunt reality check.

Chris Simms Offers a Candid Take on Joe Burrow

Appearing on “Pro Football Talk,” Simms gave a clear picture of what to make of Burrow’s back tightness early in the season.

“You’re banged up, now it’s week two, and damn, you’re going to Houston to deal with that crew,” Simms said. “That crew who, you know, is going to be pissed off because of the way they played last week. And like we talked about early in the week, Will Anderson and Danielle Hunter, and if you’ve told me they didn’t play last week, I’d go, “Oh, yeah, you’re right. I don’t even remember them. Were they a part of the game?’

“I mean, which is rare, as we know, because they’re always there and around the ball. So that is where you worry for the Bengals. It’s a big game for Houston. They’re at home. That defense is going to be foaming out of the mouth.”

However, Burrow did take part in positional drills during Thursday’s practice, according to Jay Morrison of SI.com. That’s certainly a positive step for the Bengals QB after he was limited earlier in the week.

Joe Burrow Reveals His Stance on Playing Against the Houston Texans

The good news for the Bengals is that Burrow himself described the issue as normal postgame soreness and said he’s feeling better. He also doesn’t expect it to keep him from playing against Houston this weekend.

When Burrow was asked about the possibility of sitting out Sunday’s game, he completely dismissed the idea as “ridiculous.”

For now, the Bengals have no reason to believe Burrow is in danger of missing Week 2. The quarterback admitted he may not know if he’ll be able to practice fully for the rest of the week, but he feels that mental reps and walkthroughs should be just enough to get him ready for Sunday’s game.

The 29-year-old enters Week 2 after completing 25 of 35 passes for 254 yards, one touchdown, and one interception against Tampa Bay.

Burrow’s 75.7 impact score currently ranks 16th among qualifying quarterbacks in PFN’s NFL QB Impact Metric through Week 1.
