In Week four's game at Effingham, the senior running back became the school's all-time leading rusher, now with 2,497 career yards.
Through four games this year, he ranks second in the state with 804 rushing yards, according to the IHSA website. Against the Flaming Hearts, he tallied 231 yards on the ground and four touchdowns, despite a 44-27 loss.
Couch said leaving his mark on the program record books is a goal he has been chasing since he became a starter as a sophomore.
"Feels amazing to be able to break a record that not a lot of people have it," Couch said. "Individually, it was a life goal for me to be able to break a record that only a couple of people can break in a lifetime."
"I'm so proud of his individual growth," Charleston head coach Brian Halsey said. "He's an absolute gentleman... he has manners… he's polite … he is a leader. I couldn't be more proud of him as a player and as a man, and I tell him that every day."
Couch is now eligible for a $1,500 cash prize given to one boy and one girl at the end of the school year.
