Notable Dallas-area games to watch in Week 4 (Nate Sanchez)Allen at Prosper
Where: 7 p.m. Thursday at Prosper ISD Children’s Health Stadium
Through three weeks, Allen has looked like one of the best teams with by far the best resume in Texas. Wins over Duncanville, DeSoto and Southlake Carroll have people thinking of championship Allen teams of the recent past. But is Lee Wiginton’s team about to face the best offense in Dallas?
Prosper is averaging just over 51 points per game and is fresh off a win over Austin Westlake. Tyler Albert has settled in and has thrown for nearly 1,000 yards already adding in 17 touchdowns and zero interceptions. Allen’s defense was tested last weekend against Southlake Carroll, so expect a high-scoring game here as both defenses have been susceptible to giving up some points.
Ish’s pick: Allen 49, Prosper 42
Notable Dallas-area games to watch in Week 4 (Nate Sanchez)North Crowley at Duncanville
Where: 7 p.m. Friday at Duncanville’s Panther Stadium
North Crowley may have the best defense in the area so far this season holding teams to 10 points per game and Duncanville’s defense has kept the team in games while its offense tries to find its groove. But this past weekend, DeSoto had 234 yards on the ground and nearly six yards per carry with SaRod Baker and Wyatt Davis.
Can North Crowley’s running back tandem of Kiante Ingram and G’Yrell Smith find similar success? Both averaged over five yards per carry with Ingram tallying 189 yards against Humble Summer Creek this past week.
Ish’s pick: North Crowley 28, Duncanville 17
Notable Dallas-area games to watch in Week 4 (Nate Sanchez)Frisco Emerson at Anna
Where: 7:30 p.m. Friday at Anna’s Coyote Stadium
Last week Anna convincingly dispatched fellow 4-5A Division II contender Frisco Panther Creek, 42-27, and next up is Frisco Emerson.
Emerson has yet to win a game by less than four possessions and has one of the top passers in the area in Andrew Adame with 569 yards passing this season. Anna’s Zephyr Kreye has settled in and has 538 yards passing and nine touchdowns but it’s been Juelz Carter and his 447 yards on the ground that’s spearheaded the offense, averaging nearly 10 yards per carry.
Ish’s pick: Anna 38, Frisco Emerson 28
Notable Dallas-area games to watch in Week 4 (Nate Sanchez)Highland Park at Argyle
Where: 7 p.m. Friday at Argyle ISD Stadium
It’s going to be hard to find a better quarterback matchup not only in the Dallas area but all of Texas this weekend than Buck Randall and Hayes Hackney. Both currently are first and second by a wide margin in passing yards with 1,084 for Randall and 1,017 for Hackney. Hackney has not yet thrown an interception this season.
Highland Park got its first win of the season last weekend against Tyler but despite the slow start to the season, the offense hasn’t been a problem.
Expect a lot of points and a lot of passing yards.
Ish’s pick: Highland Park 45, Argyle 42
Notable Dallas-area games to watch in Week 4 (Nate Sanchez)Arlington at Arlington Sam Houston
Where: 7 p.m. Friday at Arlington’s Wilemon Stadium
Arlington Sam Houston is a surprise team to start this year at 3-0. It’s the first time the program has started unbeaten since 2014. First-year head coach Bobby Watkins’ defense has allowed just over 11 points per game and less than 90 yards rushing per game so far. Arlington has also started off well at 2-1 and that’s been without Kason Brown.
With both Aledo and Arlington Bowie’s starting 1-2, could District 3-6A be a little more competitive at the top than anticipated? We’ll learn a lot after this game.
Ish’s pick: Arlington 24, Arlington Sam Houston 17
Notable Dallas-area games to watch in Week 4 (Nate Sanchez)Prosper Richland at Celina
Where: 7:30 p.m. Friday at Celina’s Bobcat Stadium
Another district race that’s looking very competitive at the top is 4-5A Division II. Prosper Richland is 3-0 thanks to one of the top quarterback-receiver combinations in the area in quarterback Brighton Jones and Donovan Ross.
Celina had the week off after starting 2-0 under new head coach Marc Bindel. Running back Evan Koehne has averaged 12 yards per carry in two games. The program had an impressive win in Week 2 against Argyle Liberty Christian.
Ish’s pick: Celina 27, Prosper Richland 20
Notable Dallas-area games to watch in Week 4 (Nate Sanchez)North Forney at Longview
Where: 7:30 p.m. Friday at Longview’s Lobo Stadium
North Forney lost a close one to Lancaster but still have a chance to start district play off right against Longview. Cordai Woodard still had nearly 200 yards rushing this past week and Longview is coming off a loss to Ruston, a strong program out of Louisiana.
The key in this one will be North Forney containing Longview quarterback and UTEP pledge Johnny Hamilton who has 466 yards passing and 213 yards rushing this season. Junior Jaden Hurndon at receiver is also an emerging prospect, rated as a four-star recruit by 247Sports.
Ish’s pick: Longview 30, North Forney 28
Notable Dallas-area games to watch in Week 4 (Nate Sanchez)Coppell at Richardson Berkner
Where: 7 p.m. Friday at Richardson’s Wildcat-Ram Stadium
Two of the strong contenders in District 7-6A clash this weekend. Coppell suffered a narrow loss to Waxahachie two weeks ago and thoroughly handled Keller Timber Creek this past week. Quarterback Carter Zingelmann has looked the part of an elite prospect so far this season with 860 yards passing, nine touchdowns and no interceptions but the Coppell defense has also allowed just 88 yards passing and just over 14 points per game so far.
Berkner’s defensive speed will challenge Coppell but ultimately the offense will have to find ways to break through the defense. Quarterback Christian Hampton could be the key for that after throwing for 365 yards against Royse City.
Ish’s pick: Coppell 35, Richardson Berkner 28
Notable Dallas-area games to watch in Week 4 (Nate Sanchez)Colleyville Heritage at Richland
Where: 7 p.m. Friday at Birdville ISD Complex
Another potentially high-scoring affair could be Colleyville Heritage against Richland. Sophomore quarterback Lane Vargas has been one of the top passers in the area with nearly 1,000 yards through just three games. Richland running back and UCLA pledge Jayshon Gibson spearheads the offense, but quarterback Brett Kates’ 552 yards passing and 207 yards rushing adds a balanced attack.
Ish’s pick: Colleyville Heritage 31, Richland 24
Notable Dallas-area games to watch in Week 4 (Nate Sanchez)Mansfield Lake Ridge at Waxahachie
Where: 7 p.m. Friday at Waxahachie’s Stuart B. Lumpkins Stadium
The second of two big clashes in District 11-6A this weekend puts one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks against one of the best defenses in Texas.
Lake Ridge’s Deshawn Edwards has over 450 yards passing and rushing and is coming off a 236-yard rushing performance against Lake Highlands. Waxahachie is fresh off another signature win against Denton Guyer, but head coach Lawrence Williams told his team after the game that this time of year is when the team proves that it’s really a contender.
Ish’s pick: Waxahachie 27, Mansfield Lake Ridge 18
Notable Dallas-area games to watch in Week 4 (Nate Sanchez)Sachse at Wylie
Where: 7 p.m. Friday at Wylie ISD Stadium
One of the top rushing offenses in the area faces one of the best defenses. Wylie is averaging just shy of 300 yards per game on the ground and 472 yards of offense per game led by Louisiana pledge quarterback Jabriran Blake and Texas State pledge running back Daylon Gordon. Is that duo enough to break a defense that’s allowed just 14 points over the last two weeks?
In fact, Sachse’s just allowed 231 yards per game through three games this season. As of right now the winner of this one will also be in pole position for first place in District 9-6A.
Ish’s pick: Wylie 34, Sachse 24
Notable Dallas-area games to watch in Week 4 (Nate Sanchez)Southlake Carroll vs Keller Central
Where: 7 p.m. Thursday at Keller ISD Athletics Complex
Obviously Southlake Carroll has had a disappointing start to the Lee Munn era. But as of right now, no team has come within even three touchdowns of either North Crowley or Allen this season. Southlake’s offense showed real progress against Allen putting up 35 points and 472 yards but the defense is still going through growing pains working in 11 new varsity starters from last year.
Keller Central has high expectations this season and is off to a 3-0 start led by the Taylor twins, Isaiah and Jeremiah. Hudson Tomcheck and the offense should be able to score against Central, but the question will be if Southlake’s defense can slow down Isaiah Taylor’s dual threat ability. Does Southlake get back on track or does Keller Central announce itself as a legitimate threat in Class 6A?
