It’s been a fun but busy month for Penn State (6-1). The team moved up in the rankings after a straight-set win over then-No. 4 Stanford last week. The team has bounced back nicely after a loss at Wrigley Field to No. 3 Kentucky on Sept. 6 in what was no doubt an unusual setting for a volleyball match.
After the win against Stanford, Penn State returned home on Saturday and beat Ohio in straight sets (25-21, 25-23, 25-9). Haley Burgdorf and Caroline Jurevicius each finished with six kills, with Jurevicius adding four aces. Danielle Whitmire finished with 21 assists and four aces as well.
The Villanova Wildcats (5-3) are coming off a split at a three-way meet at American last week. After sweeping host American on Thursday night, Villanova then took a straight-set loss (24-26, 18-25, 23-25) to Iowa State on Friday. Campbell McKinnon and Taylor Lewis each had nine kills. Alyssa Nelson finished the match with 24 assists and 10 digs.
The Nittany Lions are a perfect 15-0 against the Wildcats. They won most recently at home on Sept. 29, 2015.
