Anthony Smit’s resemblance to Eben Etzebeth made headlines last month after the Paarl construction worker was revealed as one of the Springbok lookalike winners of a Klipdrift Brandy competition.

Anthony was one of 23 South African men who were selected as part of Klipdrift’s 23-strong “second Springbok squad”.

His prize included being flown to Johannesburg to watch the Springboks play the All Blacks at Ellis Park last month. He’s also been featured on multiple social media posts, with many comments affirming his likeness to the towering rugby star.

Anthony has yet to meet the real Eben Etzebeth, but has bonded with other squad lookalikes during a meet-and-greet.

He said of the experience: “Meeting the other doubles was amazing. It felt like being part of a provincial rugby team; everyone was ready to play”.

Last month, Klipdrift Brandy posted a spoof lookalike squad portrait of their Springbok “doubles” winners.

The image featured South African men who resembled players like Cheslin Kolbe, Manie Libbok, Siya Kolisi, Jesse Kriel and more.
