The third week of the 2026 Texas high school football season was chalk full of memorable upsets, thrilling comebacks and all-around dominant performances.

The Big Country’s top high school football teams returned to the gridiron this weekend, where several of the area’s biggest stars put on dazzling displays and showed off their playmaking abilities.

Big Country high school football top performers – Week 2 (Sept. 10-12)

Players listed below in alphabetical order.

Tristan Beal, Abilene High

Beal shined in Abilene High’s back-and-forth 41-29 loss to Odessa Permian, throwing for 269 yards and four touchdowns on 15-of-26 passing for the Eagles.

Keegan Hayes, Gordon

Hayes had an exceptional night for the Longhorns in their 46-28 victory against Strawn, accounting for four touchdowns and a pivotal interception to help Gordon win the 78th edition of the Battle of Palo Pinto Creek.

John Rangel, Abilene High

Rangel was electric for the Warbirds against former Little Southwest Conference rival Odessa Permian, scoring on 53 and 41-yard touchdown grabs to finish a huge night with nine catches for 204 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns in Abilene High’s 41-29 loss.
