Nobody can deny the rebounding. Nobody can deny the production. Reese is averaging 16.1 points and 12.4 rebounds this season, which is objectively impressive.
But the WNBA is becoming increasingly loaded with elite players, and the bar for being called a true superstar keeps getting higher.
Reese still has questions to answer offensively.
Can she consistently punish teams when they take away her strengths?
Can she become a dependable perimeter threat?
Can she lead a team deep into the postseason instead of simply putting up enormous individual numbers?
Those are fair questions.
And they matter because Reese has become one of the most recognizable names in women’s basketball.
The hype is enormous.
The expectations should be, too.
Maybe Reese is on the verge of becoming one of the league’s best players.
But until she proves she can consistently dominate winning basketball at the highest level, calling her a superstar might be getting a little ahead of ourselves.
