Alcaraz has created chaos for good ever since he returned to action following a brutal wrist injury that had sidelined him for almost four months. At Flushing Meadows, the Spaniard has already defied the odds by swiftly reaching the quarterfinals after ousting two of his opponents, including home favorite Tommy Paul in straight sets.
The Spanish phenom has never looked better, and many have predicted that he is currently at his best. Picking up on this, an outlet reportedly misinterpreted Alcaraz’s comments about his chances of winning the US Open during Alcaraz’s Spanish-language press conference.
“I feel capable of winning” was the quote shared by ‘Sky Sports Italy,’ a misinterpretation of Alcaraz’s original comments, according to the official US Open source.
Tennis TV also posted the same misinterpreted quotes on their Instagram account. Alcaraz immediately jumped in to squash the misinterpretation, saying:

What the Spaniard actually said, as per the official US Open source, is:
“After four very good matches, do I now feel capable of winning the tournament? I still have the same expectations, the same mindset, knowing that every time I step onto the court it’s a gift and a moment to enjoy, and I still hold onto the idea that I don’t know how far I’ll go.”
Based on his comments, Alcaraz was just trying to provide a thoughtful analysis of his performance so far, rather than showing premature confidence.
Carlos Alcaraz Talks About The Improvements Needed for a Successful US Title Defense
After defeating Tommy Paul in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4, Carlos Alcaraz sat down for a press conference and said that his game still requires significant fine-tuning:
“There are a lot of things I can improve. I want to feel more comfortable in certain moments, but overall I’m very happy with how things are going.”
Next up, it is the reigning Canadian Open champion Ben Shelton, who stands in the way of Alcaraz’s quest to defend his US Open title.
