Venus and Serena Williams reportedly avoided a fine after skipping their post-match press conference at the US Open on Friday.

The Williams sisters took the court at Arthur Ashe Stadium for their opening-round women’s doubles match against Maya Joint and Chan Hao-ching. Joint and Chan dispatched the Williams sisters in three sets, 6-3, 6-7(6), 7-6(7).
Tennis journalist James Gray reported that Venus and Serena did not attend the post-match conference. He also added that the sisters would not be fined, an announcement that seemed to shock the tennis world.
This did not sit well with fans on social media.
“Why have rules if they don’t apply to every1? What a joke stop giving them wildcards!”

As per the Official Grand Slam Rulebook, if players decide to skip press meets, they face a fine of $50,000 unless they are able to give a reasonable reason for their absence.
Serena Williams’ US Open Run Comes to an End
Serena Williams started her campaign at Flushing Meadows by partnering with Carlos Alcaraz in the mixed doubles event. However, the duo fell in the quarterfinals to Belinda Bencic and Flavio Cobolli in straight sets, 5-4(4), 4-1.
The American then suffered an opening-round defeat in women’s doubles. Serena teamed up with Venus, but ended up losing to Maya Joint and Chan Hao-ching in three sets.
Joint was incidentally Serena’s first-round opponent at Wimbledon. The Australian defeated Williams in three sets.
