Colt Fowler of Byrnes basketball commits to College of Charleston

Byrnes basketball point guard Colt Fowler has picked the College of Charleston, declaring he was "1,000 percent committed" in announcements posted Sept. 5 on social media.

Fowler was the 2025-26 SCHSL Class 5A high school player of the year by the South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association. He averaged 24.3 points, 10.8 assists, and 5.7 rebounds. He shot 48% from the floor, including 37% on 3-pointers, and made 86.4% from the foul line.
The 5-foot-10 Fowler is a three-star ranked by 247Sports as a top 40 point guard in the country for the Class of 2027.
He has led Byrnes to a 73-15 record since starting his freshman season with 1,474 career points and 777 assists.
In a 2025-26 game against Eastside, Fowler had 33 points, 15 assists, and 10 rebounds. He had 40 points and 10 assists against Wade Hampton. He had 24 points and 14 assists in the 5A state semifinals loss to Ridge View.
He is the son of Byrnes boys coach Layne Fowler and girls coach Missy Fowler.
College of Charleston was not listed among the nine schools offering scholarships on Fowler's 247 profile. He had a power conference offer from South Carolina. Others were Charleston Southern, Florida Gulf Coast, Georgia Southern, Oral Roberts, Presbyterian, UNC Greensboro, Weber State and Wofford.
