SRA CEO Dr Mahendra Kalyankar Honoured with Achievers Award 2026

Dr Mahendra Kalyankar, Chief Executive Officer of the Slum Rehabilitation Authority, Brihanmumbai (SRA), has been conferred the Achievers Award 2026 in recognition of his significant contribution towards making Mumbai’s slum rehabilitation process more transparent, technology-driven, efficient and people-centric.
The award was presented at a special ceremony organised jointly by the Bhamla Foundation and Panchshil Foundation at The Ritz-Carlton, Pune. The Achievers Awards recognise individuals who have made notable contributions in areas including public service, urban development and social transformation.

The ceremony was attended by Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, Chairman of the Maharashtra Legislative Council Ram Shinde, Nadir Godrej, Managing Director, Godrej Industries Ltd. and Chairman, Godrej Agrovet Ltd., Asif Bhamla, Founder, Bhamla Foundation, Atul Chordia, Founder and Chairman, Panchshil Group, and Dr Prashant Narnavare, Secretary to the Governor, besides other distinguished personalities and awardees from various fields.
Expressing his gratitude for the honour, Dr Kalyankar said the award was not merely a recognition of his individual efforts, but also an acknowledgement of the technology-led, transparent and outcome-oriented reforms being undertaken by the SRA in the field of slum rehabilitation in Mumbai.
“This recognition is not merely a personal honour, but an acknowledgement of the technology-driven, transparent and result-oriented reforms being undertaken through the SRA in Mumbai’s slum rehabilitation sector. The development of Mumbai cannot be limited to expanding its infrastructure; it is equally about ensuring that every citizen has access to safe and dignified housing,” Dr Kalyankar said.
Dr Kalyankar further stated that the SRA is giving priority to a range of digital initiatives aimed at making the rehabilitation process more transparent, efficient and technology-enabled.
“We are prioritising various digital initiatives at the SRA headquarters to make the rehabilitation process more transparent, faster and technology-friendly. Digital mapping, online services and the integration of various administrative processes through technology are being undertaken to bring greater coordination, efficiency and transparency to the rehabilitation process,” he said.
The SRA has been focusing on the effective use of technology to make the rehabilitation process more accessible and citizen-centric. Efforts are underway to ensure that eligible beneficiaries receive services through simpler and more transparent processes, while strengthening the monitoring of rehabilitation projects and expediting administrative procedures. The SRA is also expanding the use of digital platforms to improve citizen participation and enhance the efficiency of service delivery.
Providing safe, dignified and rightful rehabilitation housing to slum dwellers in Mumbai remains one of the key objectives of the SRA. As part of this broader vision, the authority has set an ambitious target of constructing more than 5.1 lakh rehabilitation tenements by December 2030. “These efforts are aimed not only at accelerating the rehabilitation process in Mumbai, but also at giving a new direction to the city’s sustainable, inclusive and citizen-centric urban development,” Dr Kalyankar said.
