Aaron Boone's Comments on Austin Wells Might Not be a Good Thing

The New York Yankees have played pretty well over the past couple of weeks, a very promising sign if superstar Aaron Judge can return sometime over the next couple of days.
There's hope and expectation that Judge will return, though it's still uncertain when that will be. Considering we're already in September, we might even be in the days category.

The reason the Yankees have played the way they have over the past month or so is that some players have stepped up in ways they haven't in much of their careers.
One of those guys has been Austin Wells, a very promising sign for a Yankees team that needs some help at catcher. Not that Wells has been perfect, but he has nine RBIs over his last five games, including two home runs in that span. He's really swung the bat at an above-average level, but skipper Aaron Boone's comments make me a bit worried about what that might look like in the future.
“He’s making a living doing that right now, coming off the bench and getting fat,” said Aaron Boone, per the Daily News.
“You feel like he’s that threat again down there, and that’s massive,” Boone said of Wells… “I felt like when he came back off the IL, it wasn’t good yet, but I could see the move evolving and getting better,” Boone said. “Then he started to get a little bit of results, slowly but surely. But it was a process of getting to a point where he’s getting a better load and getting into better hitting positions, ultimately to get his swing off. And we know he’s a very capable offensive player. So it took a while, but I felt like the seeds of this were when he came off the IL.”
I'm never going to say Boone should come out and say his guy isn't a threat, but I hope this doesn't mean he's going to give Wells a ton of opportunities come playoff time.
Not that the Yankees really have much better behind the plate to go after, but there is reason to believe that Wells should not be the guy called upon at the position for the Yankees come October.
If he keeps swinging the bat like this, there's no reason not to ride the hot hand, but there are a lot of factors at play that I hope Boone is taking into consideration.
