New York Jets Work Out Two QBs, Including Former Second-Round Pick With A Big Arm

The New York Jets only kept two quarterbacks on the roster, and some were surprised when head coach Aaron Glenn named fourth-round rookie Cade Klubnik as the primary backup to Geno Smith. The Jets also have Bailey Zappe on the practice squad, but now the team’s front office and coaching staff are indicating that they’re interested in bringing in more competition.

New York Jets Bring Will Levis In For Workout

The Jets’ starting QB is 35 years old, and their backup has never thrown a pass in a regular season NFL game. So it’s not surprising that the Jets would want to add another arm into the mix, or possibly just evaluate their options, in case another QB is needed in the near future.

According to The Athletic‘s Zack Rosenblatt, the Jets brought in two quarterbacks for a workout. They were reigning UFL MVP Jack Plummer and former Tennessee Titans second-round pick Will Levis.

Neither quarterback was signed, but according to Rosenblatt, both were being evaluated for a potential spot on the practice squad. If anything, it’s a sign that Zappe’s spot on the taxi squad may not be all that secure, with the possibility for someone like the 27-year-old Levis or the 26-year-old Plummer to snatch it instead.

Levis hasn’t gotten a sniff since being let go by the Titans at final cutdowns, and it’s a bit surprising that he hasn’t landed on another team’s practice squad quite yet. Though, he could be doing his homework, trying to find the best opportunity possible.

As for Plummer, he wasn’t in training camp with any NFL teams this offseason, but the Carolina Panthers had him on the team for a bit in 2025 before he won the UFL’s MVP award with 2,188 passing yards, 17 touchdowns, and one interception. He is not related to former NFL QB Jake Plummer.

It’s a bit surprising that Plummer wasn’t able to compete for a roster spot this fall, but that opportunity could still happen with the Jets after Thursday’s workout.
