Jose Alvarado Has One Big Goal Left After Winning NBA Finals

Jose Alvarado became a spark plug, both with his energy on the court and his spirit in the locker room, for the New York Knicks after coming over from the New Orleans Pelicans at the trade deadline last year and his efforts played a subtle, but crucial role in helping the Knicks become the 2026 NBA Champions.

But winning a historic championship for the team that he grew up rooting for as a native New York wasn't enough for Alvarado. Now that his future with the Knicks is secure and he's under contract for the next three seasons, Alvarado has his eyes on the future and he's not just thinking about making the Knicks repeat champions, he has some personal goals in mind too.

 "I still haven't done what I wanted to do with my career. I got a lot of goals that I want to push for and this is probably going to be the most hard-working summer I probably put in. I want to be in the conversation of Sixth Man of the Year one day," Alvarado said (via SLAM). 

Alvarado went on to explain how he knows he isn't the biggest or most-athletic player and having that awareness was informed Alvarado's work ethic and helped make him such a scrappy and determined player and his declaration of wanting to work toward becoming Sixth Man of the Year is another reflection of that mentality.

Looking at his play style already, Alvarado is the perfect Sixth Man.

Alvarado's Impact

In 28 games with the Knicks after the trade deadline last season, Alvarado averaged 6.6 points, 3.8 assists, 2.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 41.4% from the field and 33% from three point range and in the Finals, Alvarado showed up in a big way, hitting clutch threes and even going toe-to-toe with Victor Wembanyama at times.

His energy and intensity encapsulates both what being a Sixth Man and being a Knick is and while he could do to take some steps up in his game, he's not all that far off from hitting the goals that he so confidently declared he has in his interview with SLAM.

Now the season is almost here and all that's left for Alvarado to do is go after those goals with full force while he works to get the Knicks back to the top of the NBA again.
